Why clean AND disinfect—aren’t they the same thing?

No, but let’s explain!

Cleaning is the process of removing dirt and debris. While this is necessary, cleaning only prepares the surface for disinfection. Cleaning includes the use of soap, detergent or one step disinfectant cleaners, but beware; germs still linger on these surfaces!

Disinfection reduces the number of pathogens on a surface, including efficacy against vegetative bacteria, fungi and viruses. Disinfection takes place after cleaning and is required for most spa and salon surfaces and foot baths.
